The Sport of Cutting Returns to the Front Range with Trainer Craig Morris

Press Release: The Sport of Cutting Returns to the Front Range

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Colorado, June 12, 2024 —What do you get when you cross a first-class Colorado cutting horse facility, cattle ranch and residential development, with a Texas born Hall of Fame cutting horse trainer? The Perfect Team. Former Colorado Senator, Rancher, and Entrepreneur Tom Wiens and Trainer, Producer, Television Personality and Entrepreneur Craig Morris have teamed up to bring the sport of cutting back to the front range of Colorado

Tom Wiens: A Legacy in Cutting

Tom Wiens of the Wiens Ranch is no stranger to the sport of cutting. He has bred and

raised National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Champions. He helped to create a

“cutting dynasty” through The Smart Look and her offspring in the cutting arena, which

is still influencing the sport today. “We want to create an environment for cutting to

flourish again on the front range. Events, instruction, first class horses and a place for

the entire family to learn and enjoy the same sport that we raised our family around. The

Western way of life and the Sport of Cutting is what we want to share with others,” said

Tom.

Craig Morris: A Horse From Colorado Propelled to Fame

Craig Morris, NCHA Hall of Fame rider with approximately $2 Million in earnings, grew

up on the back of a horse but it was one that was bred and started in Colorado at the

Wiens Ranch that allowed him to reach his lifelong dream of winning the coveted NCHA

Open Futurity Championship in 2003.

One Smart Looking Cat was the first High Brow Cat ($40 Million dollar producer) offspring to win the NCHA Futurity and his dam was none other than The Smart Look (Million-dollar producer) from the Wiens Ranch. She is also the only horse in NCHA history to produce a Champion of each of Cuttings Triple Crown Events from three different sires - two of which were bred and raised on the Wiens Ranch.

 The Ultimate Equine Athlete

“Cutting is how I was raised and it’s where I raised my family. I may be a little

prejudiced, but I think the “Cutting Horse” is the ultimate equine athlete. No other

equestrian sport requires a horse to be able to STOP Hard, Run Fast, Turn Quick and

Out-Think a cow all while on a slack rein, with very little help from the rider. The need for

Conscious Thought by the horse, to anticipate what a cow is about to do, is what really

separates them from the rest of the herd,” said Craig. “And we are excited to share that

with more people here at the World Class Cutting Horse Facility at the Wiens Ranch.”

Tom’s Comments about Craig

“We are so excited to have such an incredibly talented and caring individual leading our team here at the Wiens Ranch. It is truly an honor to have Craig here, a World Class Cutting Horse Trainer and Competitor who operates with the highest level of integrity, to reignite the Sport of Cutting on the Front Range of Colorado.

About the Ranch

Situated halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs, Wiens Ranch offers more than cutting horses. They breed quality angus cattle for their direct-to-consumer beef business (WR Premium Beef) and grow premium quality grass hay. Meanwhile, Remuda Ranch, part of the new residential development, graces the farthest West point of the ranch, overlooking the famed Red Rocks and located just minutes from Castle Rock.
